	April 8, 2008 Riddle me this... What has a head and a tail, but, even with a head, can't see its tail? (Scroll down for the answer.) Trends: Yea, verily, another hot product Sell-u-loid... We have an inside joke at Youngblood Manor. I'm the punch line, or, maybe, the butt of the joke, every time I declare to one of my kids that "(Fill in the blank) is one of my Top 10 All-Time favorite movies." This is funny to them for two reasons. First, they claim, I am always declaring something, as if they can't pick up on life's subtleties without my assistance. More significant, though, is the notion that, as of last week, my list of Top 10 All-Time favorite movies now includes 189 films. That said, one of my "Top 10 All-Time favorite movies" is "The Last Samurai." There's a great scene in this great film where the principal character, Nathan Algren (played by Tom Cruise), is attempting to learn the way of the Japanese sword — and failing consistently in the quest. One of the Samurai, Nobutada, approaches him and says, "Please forgive. Too many mind." Algren, clearly confused, says, "Too many mind?" Nobutada nods. "Hai," he says (Hai means yes). "Mind the sword, mind the people watch, mind the enemy... Too many mind." After a pause, he says, "No mind." The moral of the scene is a great lesson in life: Don't overthink what you're doing. Sometimes simple is better — maybe, even, often. There's a company that understands this message to the point that its primary product was recently named one of the Top 10 Best "Must-Haves" for 2008 by The Joe Gardener Company. And, yes, that's a Top 10 list that has but 10 names on it, so it's a real declaration when Joe G says to look out for these items. The company is Kianga; the product is Ups-A-Daisy, a sturdy, light-weight plastic disc that, when placed into a planter, creates an artificial bottom. Ups-A-Daisy creator Kristy Maniscalco tells how it works: "The Ups-A-Daisy Planter Insert simply sets about halfway down into your container (for most plant varieties), raising the bottom of the container. This allows for proper drainage and essential oxygen to access plant roots. Most annual plants have a short root base requiring only 6 inches to 8 inches of soil to thrive. If you give the roots too much room to roam, your plants may get long and leggy. But with less soil, the roots will be confined forcing nutrients back into your plants where they belong, producing healthier plants with bigger blooms while saving you time and money in the process." It's a great idea. It's a simple concept. It's a modern example of how far "no mind" can take you. I'm guessing that path leads all the way to the bank.
