	June 17, 2008 Riddle me this... You use it between your head and your toes; the more it works, the thinner it grows. (Scroll down for the answer.) Trends: Reading 101 Turning the page?... I know you'll find this hard to believe, but there are those who would call me a dinosaur. Never mind that I actually own a pair of saddle oxford shoes, that just yesterday I called someone "ma'am," and that I flatly refuse to accept "texting" as a legitimate form of English (truth be told, I didn't even get a cell phone until about six months ago). I would still contend that I'm as hip as any 51-year-old. Yea, verily, I keep it real all the time. Like now, for instance, when I suggest that the book is still a major player in the gardening education process. (Insert gasps here.) I realize that the lawn and garden world mirrors much of the rest of society, and that technological advances have touched us in ways we couldn't have imagined even a decade ago. I also realize that there's nothing like a good book. Here are four you might want to check out. And then you might want to sell them. The books are "A Gardener's Journal: Life with My Garden," "Good Bug Bad Bug," "Grow Organic," and "The Green Journal: A Personal Planbook of Eco-friendly Tips and Ideas." All four books are products of a small, independent publishing house called St. Lynne's Press. And all four books got a big green thumb's up from the lovely Mrs. Y, who found them by using a link like this: www.stlynnspress.com. I asked her the other day if she wouldn't mind showing me how to do that link thing. It looks like a pretty nifty way to transact business. On another subject entirely... Besides reading this e-mail, many (some? a few? Mom?) of you also meander over to the Open Register blog, where my colleagues and I address issues affecting the garden retail community. If you select the one that is the puzzle (and not a puzzle wannabe), and then put the product together again, you might someday be a puzzle, too.
