Dan walked into the
perennial-production area with Joe where he pointed to a large block of 1-gallon
hostas. “Those look good. What
are those called?” Dan asked.
“Oh that’s ‘Crowning Achievement.’ It’s like the Paris
Hilton of hostas these days -- the most popular one right now,” Joe said. “This
whole block will be gone by the end of the week.”
Dan picked up a pot and
admired the plant’s distinct variegated leaves. But then he saw some solid-green
foliage underneath - weeds who'd hitchhiked their way out of Holland with the
plant material. Spraying would hurt the hostas. Pulling would likely leave the
roots.
