The boys had a perfect view of the incoming storm clouds. The skies darkened. Suddenly the wind picked up, and gusts were strong enough to shake the half-ton pickup. Dan and Joe looked at each other and heavy raindrops began splattering the windshield. Seconds latter the splatters turned to tinks and the two began to see hailstones bounce off of the hood.

The storm subsided after just a few minutes, but it seemed like years. It was certainly long enough that the two knew they were looking at serious crop damage.
