Q. Are there any published guidelines available indicating appropriate nitrate levels for field grown cuts? -- Paul S.

A. There would be very specific information for each crop for tissue sampling. Nothing compiled. For soil, we don't have to get as detailed. You will not be too far off base if you maintain a minimum of 20 ppm NO3-Nitrogen in the soil at all times. Different plants and different stages will take up that N at different rates. Just make sure its always there. Why not overfertilize like always? It's potentially detrimental to flower quality and, of course, is wasteful and polluting. -- Steve Tjosvold
