Azaleas, part 2

'Fragrant Star'

'Fragrant Star,' developed by Briggs Nursery, is a polyploid form of 'Snowbird.' 'Fragrant Star' has larger, pure-white flowers, and the delicate blossoms contrast well with the large, icy-blue foliage.

It has a sweet fragrance and grows 4 feet tall. 'Fragrant Star' is produced from tissue culture.

'Millennium'

'Millennium' from Weston Nurseries produces red flowers in early to mid-June. It has mildew-resistant, blue-green foliage with silvery undersides. Fall color is bronze-red.

This deciduous, upright grower is a Rhododendron viscosum/R. prunifolium hybrid and is part of the company's Weston Collections series of native azalea hybrids. It grows 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide in 10 years and is hardy to Zone 4.

'Pennsylvania'

'Pennsylvania' from Weston Nurseries produces delicate, pink flowers from mid-July to early August. Blossoms have a hint of sweet, fruity fragrance.

Small, rounded, mildew-resistant, apple-green leaves turn coppery yellow before dropping in fall. It's a wide and upright but compact grower, reaching 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide in 10 years. It's hardy to Zone 5 and is also a part of the Weston Collections series.

'Weston's Lemon Drop'

'Weston's Lemon Drop' from Weston Nurseries has peach-colored buds that open to soft-yellow flowers with a light, lemony fragrance. Blossoms turn ivory-white as they mature.

It's vigorous growing with stiff, upright branches. Small, dusty-blue-green leaves curl downward and are mildew resistant. Foliage turns pink-red and yellow in fall. This plant grows 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide in 10 years. It's hardy to Zone 3 and is in the Weston Collections series.
