Greenhouses are a natural choice for garden retail. When seen from the street, they announce at a glance what you are: a place that sells plants. They allow you to sell your plants under a roof, which helps take the sting from rainy days.

But -- and, boy, is there a “but” -- greenhouses aren’t friendly to a lot of the new categories garden centers sell today. And the vast proportions can dwarf your fixtures and products.

This month Matt Hyatt, an award-winning designer at Bergmeyer Associates, is working with similar challenges at L.L. Bean, and offers several handy tips on how to master retailing in a greenhouse.
