Centuries of cultivation have made dianthus a popular species with gardeners, but recent breeding improvements make it a successful crop for growers. Solids and bicolors are available including white, red, lavender, pink and rose. Plant heights range from 4 inches to 3 feet. And breeders have selected varieties with very few disease problems.

Breeders and growers rated dianthus as #3 when we asked them for up-and-coming plants for the industry.
