Conveyors can be handy plant movers, but they can also limit your employees' mobility throughout your greenhouse range.
During previous projects, Louis Stacy, owner of Stacy's Greenhouses in York, S.C., installed conveyors at waist height to make them more convenient for employees.
"You've got to realize that any permanent conveyor at that height is a fence. We had to put in steps so employees could get over them," Stacy said.
Stacy put in 4,000 feet of conveyors in his newest 145,000-square-foot greenhouse range. Only this time he installed conveyors 18 inches from the ground.
"We're growing on the ground anyway, so it's not that much of an inconvenience," Stacy said. "If I were to do it again, I'd consider placing the conveyors in troughs so they'd be even lower to the ground."
