More than 1,600 varieties were trialed at Noelridge Park Gardens in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. “As a whole, all the varieties are doing extremely well,” said Dale Huddleson, trial coordinator. The first week of planting -- May 21-28 -- enjoyed good weather conditions, followed by a week of rain, he said. “Excellent growing conditions followed, though most of July was moderately hot -- between 85F and 90F -- and very humid,” he said.
