Kansas State University Research and Extension Center operates two trial sites in Kansas City and Wichita. The state has been gripped by drought and there have been several days with temperatures about 100F, said Alan Stevens, center director.
There’s been little to no rain, so both trial sites were irrigated, he said. Because of the drought, the biggest pest has been deer. “They like the succulent impatiens, begonias and portulaca, but their favorite food is the double impatiens,” he said.
