Japanese beetles on hollyhocks were the only pest problem at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s trial site in Wellesley. It was a moderately dry and warm summer with rain about once every two weeks and highs in the upper 80s and lows in the high 60s to low 70s, said Katie Hoffmann, gardens manager.
