Gordon Bailey Jr. was selected as the 2000 NMPRO Nursery Grower of the Year by a panel of five industry peers who submitted names of candidates. Panel members were:

Jack Long of J&L Nursery Co., Silverton, Ore.
J. Frank Schmidt Jr. of J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co., Boring Ore., the 1997 Grower of the Year.
William Flemer III of Princeton Nurseries, Allentown, N.J., the 1998 Grower of the Year.
Bruce A. Briggs, Briggs Nursery, Olympia, Wash., was recognized as the 1999 Grower of the Year and died in February.
The criteria for selection were:
Must be a grower.
Industry involvement essential.
Must have made some outstanding contribution.
Must be innovative: growing, breeding, propagation, marketing, personnel, company turnaround or other recognized feat.
Still living.
