Crime report
Infected areas decay quickly causing brown to reddish-brown lesions at or just below the soil line. If conditions remain favorable for disease development, the lesions will enlarge forming dry, sunken cankers that may girdle the plant. Also look for webbing from the infected area down to the soil line.

Criminal history
The growth of Rhizoctonia is favored by soil temperatures from 70°F-90°F and high soil moisture. Often, if greenhouse conditions are optimum for plants, they’re optimum for Rhizoctonia. The fungus can live on tools, benches and floors.
