When I began collecting questions from retailers last year for this series, it became clear that garden retailers were mystified by consumer shopping habits. I received so many questions on the topic, it became the only two-part subject for the series.

This month’s shopping habit questions circled back to the garden center. How do consumers react to displays? Do they really care about what the store looks like?

Meet the three panelists answering these questions and more.

Rebecca Albers is an accountant in Orange County, Calif. She’s a chief financial officer at a software consulting firm, in her mid-40s and lives in a condo with three continuous patios that could be considered a small yard.

Julie Walters, 45, owns a personal concierge service called Girl Friday. She lives with her husband and one child in the Seattle area on a large wooded lot.

Lois Page, 84, is a retiree living in a small suburban community outside of San Diego. She lives in the house she and her late husband purchased 41 years ago. It has a terraced backyard and a smaller front yard filled with roses and other flowering plants.
